Chamomile has soothing properties, effective both when you ingest it and when you use it topically. Using chamomile may assist with:

  • DIGESTION: Supporting digestion is one of the most common uses of chamomile. Chamomile supports digestion by reducing smooth-muscle spasms and calming stomach cramps. It also stimulates gastric liquids, helping digest a heavy meal.
  • INTESTINAL HEALTH. Chamomile has mild diuretic effects that help flush the bladder and reduce fluid retention.
  • MILD SYMPTOMS OF COLD: Chamomile contains powerful anti-inflammatory agents that can soothe a sore throat or a congested nose.  It also helps you sleep while you recover from a cold or the flu, thus helping you feel better overall.
  • OCCASIONAL SLEEPING DIFFICULTIES: Chamomile’s calming effects are mainly due to apigenin, a flavonoid that binds to receptors in your brain linked with stress control and sleep initiation. Chamomile may help you calm down and sleep when you have occasional sleepless nights due to a stressful day.
  • SKIN IRRITATION: Chamomile contains antioxidant compounds and generally contributes to clean, fresh, and soft skin.
  • MOUTH IRRITATION: Chamomile can be used for mouth rinses to clean mucous membranes and soothe toothache, irritated tongue, throat, or mouth.
  • HAIR CARE: Although chamomile is usually linked with sustaining the color and shine of fair, blond hair, in reality, it can be used for any hair color. It helps strengthen your hair and protect it from damage, dirt, and grease. For shiny, strong hair, you can try mixing some chamomile liquid extract in your shampoo and hair products.

Description

Support Your Body with Chamomile

If you asked people, “Which is the most popular grandma remedy?” the most common answer would probably be “chamomile tea.” Surprisingly enough for an herb used since antiquity, of all the grandma remedies out there chamomile is probably the one that is the most widely embraced by younger generations.

Famous for its gentle, soothing aroma, chamomile is widely used as an herbal tea, with millions of cups of chamomile tea being consumed each day. It is also a popular cooking ingredient in jams, biscuits, and pastry.

However, its uses are not limited to gastronomy. You can find chamomile in beauty and cosmetics, baby care, aromatherapy, pet care, and home products. Chamomile is so versatile and widely used that you could be enjoying a chamomile panna cotta while sipping on your warm chamomile tea, waiting for your chamomile face mask to cleanse your skin, comfortably resting your head on a chamomile infused pillow, with a chamomile candle adding its perfume to the room.

There is a very good reason for chamomile’s popularity: Its dried flowers contain several nutrients and phytochemicals. Its bioactive profile records an amazing 28 terpenes (including bisabolol, azulene, kaempferol, salicylic acid, farnesol, etc), 36 flavonoids (including apigenin, quercetin, tannin, etc.), and several vitamins (B1, B3, and C).
